Torchin Lantern Oval
A portable light inspired by the traditional Yame lanterns of Fukuoka. Its gentle washi glow can be carried anywhere—dining table, living room, or bedside—bringing warmth and calm to your space. The cylindrical base is lightweight, stable, and easy for both adults and children to carry. Crafted entirely by skilled Japanese artisans, the delicate lantern is made of traditional washi paper, with a warm wooden base of Buna (Japanese Beech). A touch sensor on the metal top turns it on and adjusts brightness across three levels.

Shiraiki Kogei — Timeless Lanterns from Yame
In Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture, lantern-making has been a cherished tradition for around 200 years, passed down as Bon lanterns to guide ancestors’ spirits. Founded in 1980 in Yame’s Tachibana district, Shiraiki Kogei continues this heritage, crafting lanterns amidst the rich natural surroundings of Kyushu’s largest traditional craft region. By nurturing young artisans and preserving traditional techniques, the workshop creates lanterns that harmonize with modern lifestyles, carrying Yame’s craftsmanship to the world.

Creating the Hibukuro — The Heart of the Lantern
The hibukuro is the part of the lantern where light shines—the centerpiece of the craft. When illuminated, its semi-transparent surface creates a soft, magical glow. Its frame is built from fine horizontal bamboo strips and thin vertical threads, carefully spiraled by hand. Artisans wind bamboo splints, sometimes tens of meters long, into a precise spiral using only their sense of touch. This meticulous technique, passed down through generations, is considered the origin of modern Bon lanterns.
